Why Create a Reporting System?

Reporting workloads drag down operational performance. Companies create report servers primarily to preserve the performance of operational systems and to place two distinctly different workloads – OLTP and analytics – onto separate systems optimized for each purpose. Report servers are relatively easy to implement by creating copies of the operational data and refreshing that data in specific time intervals.
